Sony Ericsson W890i Review
December 5, 2007 – 1:31 am | by Admin

The W890i is, as the name suggests, is an upgrade to the W880i, which was released earlier this year. The W890i does away with the highly criticized keyboard found on the W890i, and adds HSDPA support, among other features.
The W890i measures 104 x 46.5 x 9.9mm, only a tad larger than the W880i (103 x 46.5 x 9.4mm). It has also gained 7 grams, taking it up to 78 grams total. This isn’t really much to make a fuss about, as the handset is still very much on the thin side.
On the front of the W890i is the 240 x 320 pixel TFT LCD, capable of displaying up to 262,144 colours. The button arrangement is almost identical to the W880i, but as I mentioned, the numerical buttons are now ‘normal’ – not tiny, painful to use buttons.
GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900MHz networks are supported by the handset, as well as UMTS 2100MHz. GPRS and EDGE data protocols can be used on 2G networks, while HSDPA is offered on the 3G band for high speed connectivity. Downloading full-length MP3’s will only take seconds.
The Walkman player is built-in to the W890i, offering playback for a wide range of audio formats. Sony Ericsson have debuted a new feature, SensMe, which plots music stored on the handset according to tempo and mood – allowing you to create a play list that matches how you feel.
A 2GB Memory Stick Micro card is packed in the W890i’s sales package, as there is only 26MB of shared internal memory. Sony Ericsson estimate around 1,800 songs can be stored on the 2GB card. MegaBass, PlayNow, and TrackID functionality come as standard. If you get sick of your own music, just switch on the W890i’s integrated FM stereo radio.
According to web source. A 3.2mpx digital camera is also packed in to the W890i, providing still image and video capture. There is 3.2x digital zoom, but unfortunately no autofocus.
The W890i will be available from the 1st quarter of 2008. It comes in two colour variations: mocha brown or sparkling silver.
