Somethings are important regarding connecting to PC successfully.

First make sure your battery is well charged (prefer full charged)

Then Connect your phone with direct USB port (High Energy Port) and avoid using any joint or sub port.

If PC does not automatically install usb drive then install usb driver from motorola website for w230. install in you pc and then Connect your mobile again and now Hopefully your phone is connected. THANKS

Hey guys this phone is a good phone.All the problem is in the way we use it.

I will try my best to help you out with topics I know..

–> Unlock the keypad.And make sure that the keypad doesnt get locked until you completely connect the phone to your pc.

–> Connect the phone physically to your computer using the usb cable provided.(Remember:- before connecting it to pc unlock your keypad)

–> Select YES when the phone asks (Do you want to use your phone as storage device).

–> Now you cannot use your phone until you disconnect it from pc.

–> As soon as you select YES, your computer will ask you whether you want to open,play etc.Select “Open folder to View files”.

–>You will see 3 folders. Goto “Music” folder.

–> Simply copy paste your mp3 songs in the Music folder.

–> After finishing it goto “Safely Remove Hardware” and stop the Device.

–> Now your phone is disconnected and operable.

–>uNLOCK THE KEYPAD.

–> Press the Left Softkey that plays music.
OR
–> In Menu Goto Multimedia->Music Library.

–> In Music Library Click the Middle Button(the round button in the red ring that is physically present on the keypad).

–>You will see a “Options menu”.

–>In “Options menu” Goto “Switch storage devices”.

–> Select “Memory Card”(on selecting memory card you will see a blue tick on the left of the text).

–> Now you will see all the songs in your memory card. You can play the songs on your sd card.

Hey guys! This phone really rockin my world. Perfect for those music lover. Best match to those not want to spend a lot of money just for phone, simply mean PERFECT BEST match for me

At first, same as what problems got of the other users, I cant connect the phone through USB cable. As I plug it in just 2 seconds its been disconnected. Almost half a day facing of the computer, at the afternoon til midnight for finding how can I solve this problem until the next day morning, I’ve tried everything what suggested in different forums, NOTHINGS happen. Getting frustrated and want to trow the phone but still I let my self be calm and understand everything.
Everyone is looking for the motorola w230 USB driver but I think It doesnt really need, this phone is compatible with the Window 2000/XP, so no more driver to download to your pc, others did w/out installing it. I think the problem is in not the driver nor type of USB cable, you know what, I THINK the problem is really in the phone. Maybe other motorola w230 handset is not good, you know what i mean.
As I plugged it it says into my computer that “new hardware has been detected” then in just a second appeared “not work properly. Replace the hardware”, something like that appeared in my computet, forgot the exact words. The hardware says is the handset(w230), isnt it? So? maybe other phones really have a problem when it comes in connecting through cable. Think about it, why does others did? Trying the same step they have done, but doesnt yet work

Dont crack your mind thinking too much, better to use a card reader then VIOLA!

this phone is meant to be a music phone. use only for that. anything else you want to do ? better be ready to fork a few more thousands and get some other phone.

perfectly compatible with xp. use xp. vista sucks anyway.

to install driver, go into mass storage mode (YES) . copy DRIVER folder from one of the drives that appear on my computer to your hard drive.

next reconnect the usb cable, select NO . windows will ask you for driver for new hardware, point it to the saved DRIVER folder in your hard disk.

Make SURE it’s unblocked and select “use your phone as storage device” then your computer will found a new hardware/storage device. JZZ: Yes it will charge your Phone if you install FIRST the software you will find here:
http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/nss/usb_drivers_pc_charging_drivers.asp

then you have to selecte: PC CHARGING DRIVERS, download it, and install it. After the installation process you will be able to CHARGE your PHONE VIA USB.

As per Adding Files (MP3 and…) Just Plug your Phone and make sure It’s FULLY CHARGED otherwise it will not give you access to add files!! Make SURE it’s unblocked (the Phone) and select “use your phone as storage device” YES. then your computer will found a new hardware/storage device. When you open it (The icon with a hard disk/storage appareance), you will see 3 folders, place your Music within the Music Folder (by means of Drag and Drop or Copy Paste), and voila!! Depending of your memory space you will be able to place from 50 and up to 400/500 songs depending on the Lenght of songs.

Hi People Basic and experimentally proved steps to
connect Motorola W230 to PC for WindowsXP.
1. Make sure your cell phone is fully charged.
2. Before connecting W230 to PC install (Motorola 3.9.0 driver with motoconnect 32bit version) 32 bit version is for windows XP. This driver can be downloaded from (http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/nss/usb_drivers_pc_charging_drivers.asp)
3. After installing these drivers, download (PC charging driver 2 )from (http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/nss/usb_drivers_pc_charging_drivers.asp)
4. After downloading PC charging driver copy it to desktop.
5.Restart your computer.
6. format your memory card. not required but it is preffered.
7. Now unlock the keypad and connect the usb port to motorola W230, select “NO” at ” use your phone as a storage device ”
8. An icon will apear on pc screen. found new hardware now install pc charging software through it using the link below instruction (http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/nss/InstallationInstruction/wdriver.pdf)
9. after the pc charging driver installation. your usb is being used as a charging device.
10. now unplug the usb and reconnect it.
11. select yes for “mass storage”
12. after this step go to my computer and your phone will be displayed as a Removable Disk.
13. there would be three folders DRIVERS, pictures and Music.
14. copy and drag your mp3 files to music folder.
15. you can also make subfolders but only in music folder not in picture folder.
16. after your usb to pc installation thank God after that mail me at Champion.IP4P@yahoo.com for further problems regarding mobile phones.
17. dont waste time in reading instructions go and start your installation process.

I really apreciate those who tried to help us, but unluckilly it didn´t functioned, maybe you can help me PLEASE, i did all that Pakistani Champion sayed, but while i´m installing the pc charging drivers, in the last window show, it appears :

Anyway, i still can´t see the cel on my computer.

I want your opinion,

if i buy a memory card reader, will i miss something else?

i mind, is there something good to do with the cel phone being connected to your pc, apart from putting music and photos????

Hi Dear Friend Borbujas,
I have read your comment and i think that the problem occuring on your system is due to Operating System. From my point of view you might have downloaded the driver system 64 instead of system 32 bit. If you are a windows Xp user you should download system 32 drivers.

You can buy a memory card reader. using memory crd reader to upload pictures and music would be done simply. but my recommendation is that you would be helpless while inserting and pulling memory crd from phone time to time. it would become annoying for youor any problem regarding mobile or electronic items mail me at [champion.ip4p@yahoo.com and e.solutionz@hotmail.com]

My PC doesn’t detect the phone. I use windows seven and I followed all the steps and nothing happens.
