Nokia 2600 on AT&T

Yap, we knew this is coming. Nokia 2600 is now officially available on AT&T. It’s a low-end phone, meaning there’s not much exciting in terms of specs. Still, the candybar device manages to pack a 128×128 pixels screen, Bluetooth, VGA camera, and speakerphone. In terms of pre-installed apps, aside from the classics like calendar, alarm and calculator – the Nokia 2600 also boasts an email and instant messaging client.

Available for free with a two-year contract in either black or red, the device measures 4.21×1.84×0.79 inches and has a weight of 3.17 ounces.

Again, it’s nothing spectacular, just a decent and reliably entry-level phone…

Nokia N85 Review

The Nokia N95 has been replaced, however perhaps not by the numerically logical N96, but instead by this, the Nokia N85 – its spiritual successor. The N95 was for sometime one of the most powerful phones on the market, filled with at the time, up to date features and cracking innovations, something it shares with the N85 which takes the the N95’s ethos and pops it inside a slimmer, lighter and more powerful casing.

Features of the Nokia N85.

The Nokia N85 sprung up in August and is a dual-slider mobile phone available in an attractive copper colour. This is a 3G mobile phone with HSDPA support, GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi plus A2DP Bluetooth giving it a full house in terms of data connection options. The N85 runs a Symbian operating system which is S60 3rd Edition with Feature Pack 2 installed.

So far, so N95 and nothing really over the N96, but things start to get interesting when you examine the screen. The N85 has a 2.6” item with a resolution of 240×320, but what makes it special is the fact it’s an OLED screen. This means it displays brighter images with improved contrast, has greater visibility at wider angles and in bright sunlight and most importantly of all takes far less power to run. These expensive little screens are the future and it’s great to see one in action here.

The introduction of the OLED display has seen a marked improvement in standby and talktime over the N95 and the N96, with the quoted figures being 363 hours standby and nearly 7 hours talktime. For the first time on a Nokia N-series mobile phone, we also have a mini-USD charging socket instead of the previously favoured Nokia standard type. Great for those who hate taking different chargers for different items when traveling.

Add a 3.5mm jack plug socket for the excellent music player, TV-out, an FM radio, FM transmitter, MicroSD card slot for cards up to 8GB in size, Assisted GPS and the autofocus Carl Zeiss lensed 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and the N85 starts to shape up well against the competition. It even manages a 16mm thickness and 128 gram weight despite all this technology. As the flagship Nokia phone, the N96 will have an army of fans, but for everyone else, the Nokia N85 could well be the perfect all-rounder.

Release Date for the N85:

The Nokia N85 is expected to be on sale during this October 2008.
