During this Nokia has been very successful with using the Symbian operating system for its mobile phones. However, the largest handset manufacturer in the world is to consider using open-source Linux software on top of the mobile phone class.

Nokia does not seem interested in using the Google Android software in their phones. Nokia to take different steps, with the produce mobile phone with open-source software.

Nokia is considering the Pinguin Linux, indicated by the Vice President of Nokia Markets Unit Ukko Lappalainen. Nokia official said this company is looking for other options outside of the Windows Mobile or Google Android.

“Linux will become a serious alternative to high-end mobile phones,” said Lappalainen.

When asked why Nokia does not want to join with other manufacturers that use Google’s Android, he asserts do not see Android any better than Linux Maemo.

Transition from Symbian to Linux Maemo also easier for Nokia, because the operating system is the product range underlie the Nokia Internet Tablet. What should be done only make smaller, same smartphone size.

If the Nokia N97 impresses us with a touch screen and sliding QWERTY keyboard, what about products such as the N98 that uses Linux-Maemo.
